In 2000, This local landmark  was at major risk after storm damage had greatly weakened the structure.  Storm water trapped on the roof had caused the building to shift and pull away from the neighboring building.  Emergency measures were taken by Batzer Service Division to evacuate the building temporarily save the building, then a Design/Build team was formed to do a complete historic restoration and save the building for future generations.  The was originally built in 1890 and has had major renovations in 1907, 1927, 1940, and 1976.   So how exactly do you “restore” something that has been renovated in so many different eras?  In the end the final renovation drew on restoring an eclectic mixture of the historic and remodeled features.  The building honors the evolving hisotry of downtown Medford, and uses the best features from different eras.

The design team comprised of owners Chuck & Jerry Horton, Don Burt of the Medford Urban Renewal Agency, Chris Reising from the City of Medford Building Department, Structural Engineer Brett King, representatives from the historical commission and Batzer Construction.

The building is now saved for future generations and will remind them of it’s long and varied history from a hardware store to jewelers shop.
