Grand Opening at Coos Curry Electric!

Friday, March 25th, 2011

We’re very pleased to announce Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative has opened the doors on their new Coquille office!

RibbonCuttingRuss Batzer and project manager Andy McHugh attended the grand opening Ceremony that featured Coos-Curry Chairman, Pete Radabaugh, cutting the ribbon with several board members and local citizens in attendance.

This new facility along Hwy 42 in Coquille is on the old Georgia Pacific Mill site.   It’s one of the first redevelopment projects that’s happened at the former lumber mill site.

Construction work got a slow start last July, which came on the heals of one of the wettest June’s on record.  Waiting for wet soil to dry out was no fun, but it was the right thing to do to ensure a good foundation and slab.

The building features a beautiful front office at the north end of the building and on the south end it has a well lit shop and warehouse to keep to the Coos Curry Electric crews fully operational and keep the power on, on the South Coast of Oregon.

It’s been a pleasure working with Coos Curry Electric, HGE Inc, and the many subcontractors and suppliers.   The construction project was run by project manger Andy McHugh, and superintendent Vane Jones of Batzer Construction.   The project is beautiful.  Great Job Team!

The World: Electric Company builds at old G-P

It was the best of times; it was the worst of times.

That explains why Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative’s new facility is under construction at the old Georgia-Pacific mill site in Coquille…..

For the co-op, ‘this is a good time to build,” said Roger Meader, CEO.

The Port Orford-based co-op bought a 2.67-acre parcel of the former Georgia-Pacific property in 2008. It started construction this summer.

Walls, foundations and slabs are now in place.

The co-op benefited from the slow construction market.

Hard times, good deals

‘We got good deals,” Meader said.

Eleven construction companies bid on the job, with Batzer Construction of Medford winning the contract.

The new facility will replace two co-op facilities in the Coquille area.
